Christine (left) meets with a client

Christine (left) meets with a client

My name is Christine and I am a Financial Coach at Compass Working Capital. I am one of the many employees at Compass who simply loves the work that we do. Like my colleagues, I approach every day with our mission at the forefront of my mind, and with a deep belief in the clients we serve.

And for me, it’s personal. In our Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) programs, I work one-on-one with clients who live in federally subsidized housing. I know first-hand how it feels to live in subsidized housing, because I grew up in subsidized housing in Boston. I remember watching my mother work hard every day. But for her, like many families, it was like being on a treadmill: you can increase the speed setting and keep working harder, but you feel like you never really get anywhere.

What we do at Compass now could have helped my mother change our circumstances if our FSS program had existed for her back then. I keep this in mind, when some of my clients dare to dream of homeownership, when they dare to move towards financial independence and believe in the possibility of a better future for themselves and their families. There is no greater feeling than seeing our clients make progress. Their success is our pride and joy, and we could not do it without the support of people like you.

Compass is not only making a difference in the clients we work with directly (you can read some of their stories here), but now we have expanded our impact by providing support to other organizations and housing providers throughout the nation to do the same meaningful and effective work. Our voice has even made its ways into the halls of Congress.

If you have read this far, it is because you too have a heart for work that matters. Please join our efforts by supporting us with a donation today. Every dollar you give through December 31st will be matched 1-1, up to our $10,000 goal!

Happy holidays and thank you,
