Lubna Elia | Chief Operating Officer
Lubna joined Compass as Chief Operating Officer in April 2019. In this role, she oversees the organization’s Finance, Human Resources and Administrative functions. She has 18+ years of experience in the social impact sector and has led a variety of functions during her career. Prior to joining Compass, Lubna was Senior Director of US HR and Corporate Compliance at Root Capital. During her decade with Root Capital, she led functions as diverse as fundraising, legal, resource coordination, GRC (governance, risk management & compliance), and HR. Previously, she led resource development at Design that Matters, a design-for-development firm based in Salem, Massachusetts, and served as Director of Development at Teach for America-Houston, a national teacher corps aimed at strengthening teaching quality in public schools. She also spent three years as a Campus Minister at the University of Houston Catholic Newman Center, where she co-founded the Bayou Awakening young adult retreat program and taught a prize-winning course on economic justice.
Lubna holds an M.A. in international relations from Boston University and a B.A. in humanities honors from the University of Texas at Austin, where she specialized in economic development in Latin America. She is fluent in Spanish.
Lubna is also Founder and President of the New England Impact Investing Initiative, an organization that aims to build a thriving and diverse regional impact investing industry by fostering connections, knowledge sharing, and talent development.
